Turkey is set to significantly expand Istanbul Airport, with plans for nine runways and an annual capacity of 200 million passengers. President Erdoğan announced this during the inauguration of the fourth main runway, which is 2,820 meters long and 45 meters wide, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing aircraft ground time and fuel consumption. The expansion includes two additional main runways and one reserve runway, alongside a new terminal. Currently, the airport operates with three main and two reserve runways, having already served over 475 million passengers since its opening.
