The word "supat" has gained popularity on social media, prompting discussions and an official response from the Romanian Linguistics Institute. Carmen Ivanov, a former radio host, discovered the term in the latest edition of the Romanian dictionary (DOOM 3) while teaching a diction course. Although she initially thought it was a new addition, she later found that "supat" has been documented for over 30 years. The Linguistics Institute clarified that the word is not new and has historical usage in Romanian literature. They emphasized that dictionaries do not create words but catalog those used by speakers. Ivanov explained the phonetic aspects of the term's formation, highlighting how certain sounds blend in spoken language.
