Romania's government is extending emergency measures for the energy sector until September 30 due to low Danube water levels affecting the Cernavoda nuclear plant. The plant, which normally generates 20% of the country's electricity, has been offline since August 13 due to insufficient water for safe operation. Various interventions, including the use of barges and potential dredging, aim to redirect water flow to the plant. However, the government acknowledges that these measures may not guarantee the necessary water levels for reactor restart. A contingency plan includes using cisterns for water supply if levels drop critically low.
