Romanian students have found ways to circumvent the ban on mobile phones in schools by bringing two devices, one functional and one broken. Despite a law prohibiting phone use during classes, teachers are unable to enforce compliance due to legal restrictions. Students often hide their phones during lessons, leading to concerns about attention and behavior in class. School directors express frustration over their inability to impose sanctions for violations, as legal challenges could arise. A recent European study indicates that rules regarding phone use are more prevalent in Romania than in other countries. A new legislative proposal aims to further restrict mobile phone access in schools, following poor performance in PISA tests.
