Romanian students spend less time in school and have longer vacations compared to their peers in other countries, according to OECD reports. While primary teachers in Romania earn more than other university graduates, there is a shortage of teaching staff. Romanian primary students have an average of 540 hours of classes per year, significantly lower than the OECD average of 804 hours. Despite higher salaries for teachers, nearly 3% of teaching positions remain unfilled. Education spending in Romania is about $7,300 per student, compared to the OECD average of $13,600. Recent reports indicate that secondary teachers' salaries have become more competitive, with a notable improvement in remuneration over the past two years.
