Electrocentrale Bucureşti (ELCEN) is preparing for the 2026-2027 winter season while facing significant financial challenges, including unpaid debts of approximately 1.5 billion lei. The company emphasizes the need for substantial investments and a cohesive approach to ensure energy security. ELCEN is conducting technical maintenance and repairs across its plants to ensure safe operations during peak winter demand. Additionally, modernization projects are underway to enhance production capacity and reduce emissions. The construction of three new high-efficiency cogeneration plants is also planned, aimed at supporting Bucharest's energy transition.
