Egypt is developing its first high-speed electric train network, comprising four lines totaling about 2,250 kilometers. The first three lines, covering 2,000 kilometers, are under construction and will connect numerous cities. Siemens Mobility, in collaboration with local firms, is leading the project, valued at approximately 8.1 billion euros. The trains, including 41 Velaro high-speed units, are designed for desert conditions and can reach speeds of 250 km/h. The network aims to reduce reliance on cars and buses, potentially cutting carbon emissions by 70%. The first line will link Ain Sokhna to Marsa Matrouh, while the second and third lines will connect various regions, enhancing both passenger and freight transport.
