The Constitutional Court ruled that an amendment aimed at disclosing the assets of unmarried partners of high-ranking officials is unconstitutional. This decision not only excluded partners from the law but also invalidated the entire mechanism for publicizing financial declarations for 43 categories of officials. The ruling highlighted the lack of legal recognition for civil partnerships in Romania, making it impossible for the state to impose obligations based on informal relationships. Consequently, while spouses remain obligated to declare their assets, the law cannot enforce similar requirements on partners without a clear legal framework.
