Economiile românilor, „mâncate” de inflație

At the end of June 2026, household deposits in Romania reached 269.3 billion lei, a 7.4% increase from the previous year. However, after adjusting for inflation, the real value of these savings has decreased. Romania also experienced the largest drop in the savings rate in the EU during the first quarter of 2026, attributed to rising living costs. Many households are forced to use their savings to cope with these expenses, leading to a paradox where financial perceptions are more pessimistic than actual bank balances suggest. Despite a nominal increase in deposits, real purchasing power has declined by 2.7%. Inflation remains the highest in the EU at 9.2%, significantly impacting savings.
