In the second quarter of 2026, Romania's GDP decreased by 0.4% compared to the same quarter in 2025, with a 2% drop in seasonally adjusted terms. The first half of 2026 saw a GDP decline of 0.8% compared to the first half of 2025. The National Institute of Statistics revised the seasonally adjusted GDP figures, reflecting new estimates for Q2 2026. The Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Mugur Isărescu, predicts zero or negative economic growth for this year but does not foresee a severe recession.
