Russia's federal budget for non-defense spending is projected to drop to its lowest level in two decades, according to Alfa-Bank analysts. By 2027, these expenditures are expected to account for about 9% of GDP, down from over 10% in previous years. Defense spending will reach a record 17.1 trillion rubles, constituting 35% of total expenditures. Civil sectors will face cuts, with social support, education, and health budgets decreasing significantly. To cover the deficit, the government plans to increase borrowing, leading to a situation where nearly 10% of the budget will go to servicing public debt. Analysts warn that this prioritization of military spending over social investment could lead to economic stagnation and a decline in living standards.
