Romania's economy contracted by 0.7% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to provisional data from INS. Household consumption decreased by 2.5%, negatively impacting GDP. However, gross fixed capital formation rose by 10.9%, contributing positively to GDP growth. The trade, industry, and IT sectors experienced declines, while construction saw a significant increase of 12.3%. Overall, the second quarter's GDP remained stable compared to the first quarter but was down 2% from the second quarter of 2025.
