Romania's economy contracted by 0.7% in the first half of 2026, with household consumption down by 2.5% and investments rising by 10.9%. The GDP for Q2 was 494.4 billion lei, unchanged from Q1. While household spending negatively impacted GDP, gross fixed capital formation contributed positively by 2.4 percentage points. Construction activity increased by 12.3%, and public administration consumption rose by 1.7%. However, industrial output fell by 2.9%, and trade activities decreased by 3.9%. Exports grew by 1.3%, but imports outpaced this growth, leading to a negative net export contribution. Overall, the economic outlook remains challenging, with recovery anticipated only in 2027.
