Romania's GDP decreased by 0.7% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to provisional data from the National Institute of Statistics. In the second quarter, GDP fell by 0.4% year-on-year. The estimated GDP for the first semester was 1,023.031 billion lei, reflecting a real decline of 1.6%. Positive contributions to GDP growth came from construction, cultural activities, and agriculture, while negative impacts were noted in retail, industry, and public administration. Household consumption decreased by 2.5%, affecting GDP negatively, while public administration consumption increased. The net export also contributed negatively due to rising imports.
