France has agreed to start discussions with Latvia about expanding its nuclear umbrella and increasing military presence in the Baltic state. Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs announced that a French delegation will visit Latvia to negotiate participation in France's nuclear deterrence initiative. President Emmanuel Macron expressed commitment to enhance military presence, particularly in air defense, which would strengthen security for Latvia and NATO's eastern flank. Other European countries are also engaging in discussions about joining this initiative, while Estonia has begun negotiations with France. Romania, however, declined to join, citing existing protection under the American nuclear umbrella.
