Public institutions in Romania can now access EU funds to produce and store their own electricity, with a total of €650 million allocated for two new programs. The larger program, worth €500 million, focuses on renewable energy production, primarily through solar panels, and requires battery storage. A second program, with €150 million, is aimed at institutions that have already invested in renewable energy but lack storage systems. The funding can cover up to 100% of eligible expenses, with a cap of €10 million per beneficiary. Applications will open on September 11, 2023, and projects must be completed by December 31, 2029. These initiatives aim to reduce energy costs and improve the efficiency of renewable energy use, addressing the recent energy crisis caused by drought conditions.
