The nationalist party Alternative for Germany (AfD) celebrated its electoral victory in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, marking its second success in two weeks. Leader Alice Weidel emphasized the need for an alliance against the Left Party, which won in Berlin. Leif-Erik Holm, the party's candidate for premier, described the results as strong, while Chancellor Friedrich Merz called them catastrophic for his party. AfD secured 37-38% of the votes, surpassing the Social Democratic Party (SPD) at 36%. Holm expressed willingness to negotiate with all parties for government formation. SPD's Manuela Schwesig acknowledged the challenging campaign and ruled out a coalition with AfD. Weidel highlighted AfD's growing popularity and criticized the Left Party's policies in Berlin.
