După 13 ani de eutanasiere, România încearcă o altă cale pentru câinii fără stăpân. Experimentul care a ajutat aproape 40.000 de animale

In Romania, a shelter in Smeura is implementing a program to sterilize stray dogs to reduce their population. The initiative, led by the German organization Tierhilfe Hoffnung, aims to prevent new generations of abandoned dogs. Since 2013, Romania has allowed the capture and euthanasia of strays, but the number remains high, with around 500,000 dogs on the streets. The shelter has successfully adopted out over 2,200 dogs last year, but new arrivals quickly fill the spaces. The program has already sterilized nearly 40,000 dogs this year, including owned pets, and seeks to address the issue before it escalates further. This approach is gaining support amid calls to reduce euthanasia practices.
