Two drones shot down in Romania are believed to be Russian-made Geran-4 models, according to interim Defense Minister Radu Miruță. These drones, equipped with turboprop engines, reached speeds of approximately 450 km/h, indicating they are a new type not previously intercepted by the Romanian Army. Miruță highlighted that these drones pose a different challenge for air defense systems due to their higher speed compared to previously encountered models. He noted that while slower drones could be intercepted by ground-based systems, fighter jets are more suited for dealing with faster drones like the Geran-4.
