A Romanian F-16 fighter jet shot down a drone that entered national airspace on July 24, 2023, near Padina, Buzău County. The Ministry of National Defense reported that the drone was detected by radar and engaged by the F-16 after two Italian Eurofighter Typhoons and two Romanian F-16s were deployed for monitoring. The incident prompted RO-Alert messages in Tulcea and Brăila counties. This is not the first drone downed by a Romanian F-16, as a similar event occurred in Estonia in May 2023.
