Drogurile pentru consum propriu: de ce o amendă nu poate înlocui tratamentul
A legislative proposal in Romania aims to decriminalize drug possession for personal use, replacing it with fines. However, this change alone does not address the need for effective treatment options for users. The experience from Oregon, which decriminalized drug possession, shows that without established support services, such measures can lead to increased overdose deaths. Romania's healthcare system currently lacks sufficient treatment facilities and specialized staff. A proposed alternative is to maintain criminalization while allowing users to enter treatment programs, potentially suspending legal action during their recovery. The focus should shift from punishment to rehabilitation, but adequate treatment resources must be in place first.
