High construction costs for highway segments in Romania have reached record levels, exceeding one billion euros each due to challenging terrains and infrastructure requirements. The most expensive project is the Nușfalău – Poarta Sălajului section of the A3 highway, costing 6.62 billion lei, featuring Romania's longest road tunnel. Other costly segments include the Ditrău – Grințieș and Grințieș – Pipirig sections of the A8 highway, with significant investments in tunnels and bridges. These projects highlight the financial challenges of building in mountainous areas, where complex structures are necessary for safe transit.
