In the first half of 2026, two-thirds of children in Western Europe faced extreme temperatures, a significant increase compared to previous years. This alarming trend, highlighted by Save the Children, indicates that the number of affected children is the highest since 2003. The organization emphasizes that climate change exacerbates the risks for children, who are particularly vulnerable to heat-related health issues. In Germany, the exposure rate has surpassed the last five years combined, while in the UK, 10 million children experienced extreme heat, marking a 30-year high. The impact extends to education, with schools closing in response to dangerous heat levels.
