In the first half of 2026, two-thirds of children in Western Europe faced extreme temperatures, a significant increase compared to previous years. This alarming trend is attributed to climate change, which disproportionately affects children due to their developing bodies. In Germany, the number of children exposed to extreme heat this year surpassed the total from the last five years combined. The UK reported that 10 million children experienced extreme heat, the highest in 30 years. These conditions not only pose health risks but also disrupt education, leading to school closures in several countries. The organization warns that the full year's data may reveal even more severe impacts.
