Dosarul ROBOR, explicat: Ce poate şi ce nu poate face BNR după amenzile aplicate băncilor
The record sanctions in the ROBOR case have highlighted the roles of banking oversight institutions in Romania. While the Competition Council found anti-competitive practices in the ROBOR setting process, the National Bank's responsibilities are limited to prudential supervision and technical market framework management. The investigation by the Competition Council, which lasted over three years, focused on the behavior of banks during fixing periods rather than the technical calculation of the ROBOR index. Consumers affected by these practices cannot automatically receive compensation from the National Bank, which does not resolve disputes between clients and banks. For grievances, consumers can contact the National Authority for Consumer Protection or seek alternative dispute resolution.
