Dosarul 10 August ajunge în instanță la trei zile după prescripție: foștii șefi ai Jandarmeriei, judecați • Newsweek România

The Military Court of Appeal in Bucharest is set to hear the appeal regarding the acquittal of former Romanian Gendarmerie leaders, just three days after the statute of limitations for their criminal liability expired. The case, related to the violent dispersal of peaceful protesters on August 10, 2018, has seen significant delays, with the statute of limitations expiring on October 10, 2026. While the criminal proceedings may cease due to this expiration, victims still retain the right to seek civil damages. The Declic community, which supports over 300 victims, plans to take the case to the European Court of Human Rights if the Romanian courts do not provide a favorable outcome. The former leaders were accused of abuse of power and faced various penalties, but many civil claims were dismissed by the court.
