On Friday, Donald Trump signed a law imposing new sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine, particularly targeting the energy sector. This legislation, which was first passed by the Senate in August, represents a significant action by Congress against Moscow since Trump's return to the White House. Named after its main proponent, the late Senator Lindsey Graham, the law also targets Russia's 'phantom fleet' and high-ranking officials, including President Vladimir Putin. Additionally, it grants Trump the authority to impose tariffs up to 100% on major countries importing Russian gas and oil, such as China and India, and extends sanctions against Iran until 2031.
