Maria Petca Poptean, known as the "Nightingale of the Oaș Country," passed away at 72, leaving a significant legacy in Romanian folk music. Her death was announced by the County Center for the Conservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture. Over her five-decade career, she was a prominent figure in promoting Oaș songs, with her first public performance in 1970 and notable participation in the "Maria Tănase" Festival. The center expressed deep sorrow for her loss, highlighting her memorable voice and dedication to preserving traditions. In 2005, she founded the "Măgura" folk group and established the "Rapsodia Oașului" Cultural Association in 2008. Her contributions to folk music and culture will be remembered by many.
