Two cardiologists from the Heart Institute in Cluj-Napoca successfully performed a complex cardiac procedure in Durban, South Africa, during the Africa Live Cardiology congress. Dr. Mihai Cocoi and Dr. Alexandru Achim reopened a completely blocked artery in an 80-year-old patient, showcasing advanced techniques to an international audience. The procedure, known as CTO (Chronic Total Occlusion), is among the most challenging in cardiology, requiring precise navigation through fully occluded arteries. This event not only treated the patient but also served as an educational demonstration for specialists worldwide, highlighting Romania's expertise in interventional cardiology.
