Directorul Centralei de la Cernavodă, întrebat dacă există risc de securitate nucleară pentru România

The director of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, Romeo Urjan, discussed the unprecedented low water levels affecting operations. Currently, the Danube's water level is at a historic low of 1.6 meters, which poses risks to cooling systems. Although the plant is currently shut down safely, the lack of nuclear energy production leads to significant economic losses, estimated at up to 5 million euros daily. Urjan emphasized the need for long-term solutions, such as a dam, to ensure adequate water supply for cooling. The local community is also facing challenges due to the shutdown, lacking hot water and heating since August 13. Measures are being taken to manage water levels, but the future remains uncertain.
