ÖBB Rail Cargo Group has announced reduced freight transport times between Central Europe and the Balkans following the reopening of the Budapest-Belgrade line. This route connects Greek ports and Southeast European markets with Budapest and the rail network to Austria, bypassing Romania. Freight trains to Greece are now approximately 3-4 days faster, reaching their destination in about 5-6 days, representing a nearly 40% reduction in transit time. The modernized line allows for longer freight trains and has eliminated previous restrictions, enhancing efficiency. The Budapest-Belgrade route is part of a European transport corridor linking Central Europe to the Adriatic and Eastern Mediterranean ports.
