Electric vehicle sales in Russia surged during summer due to fuel shortages caused by Ukrainian attacks on refineries. Sales reached 26,543 units from June to August, doubling from the previous year. The attacks intensified in June, leading to a significant drop in gasoline production, which fell to about 70% of domestic needs. This crisis forced many drivers to consider electric vehicles as alternatives. However, the electric vehicle market remains small due to limited charging stations and challenging climate conditions. Last year, electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles accounted for only 4.3% of total car sales in Russia, with supply issues further hindering growth.
