The Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, clarified that claims about potential prison sentences for well owners are false. She explained that the information stemmed from a European directive regarding serious environmental offenses, which does not apply to private wells. Buzoianu emphasized that the law allows for legal water extraction from wells, and the panic among citizens was fueled by misinformation. She noted that the law permits a daily water usage of up to 17 cubic meters without the need for metering. The false information was initially spread by MEP Claudiu Târziu, prompting the National Audiovisual Council to take action against it.
