OpenAI has blocked accounts linked to operators in Russia and Iran for using ChatGPT in influence campaigns across various countries. False information was disseminated, prompting reactions from a European Parliament member. The Russian operations targeted Latin America, aiming to undermine support for Ukraine, while Iranian operators focused on creating and distributing articles in Persian and English. They created fake identities to publish nearly 100 articles in global publications, including Daily Kos and Middle East Monitor. OpenAI noted that the Iranian activities resembled those of a commercial entity conducting paid influence campaigns, but the organization behind them remains unidentified.
