The Romanian Senate approved a project for compensating consumers affected by unfair practices related to ROBOR-indexed loans. The legislation allows for recalculating obligations and recovering overpaid amounts, but not all borrowers will automatically qualify. The project, which passed with a majority vote, will now be debated in the Chamber of Deputies. Key conditions include proving competition law violations and demonstrating consumer harm. The recalculation of interest rates will use the IRCC index starting from May 2, 2019. If banks and clients cannot reach an agreement, clients may seek court intervention for recalculating obligations.
