Researchers have discovered that Sicily and Malta were once connected by a land strip, allowing movement between the two territories much earlier than previously thought. However, there is no archaeological evidence yet to confirm that humans crossed this land bridge. Evidence indicates that humans arrived in Malta around 9,000 years ago, long after the land strip had disappeared, meaning any proof of crossing would significantly alter the history of Mediterranean inhabitants.
