A new study led by Professor Alexander Govorov from Ohio University focuses on ultrasensitive chiral detection using nonlinear chiroptics in spiral plasmonic metastructures. This research addresses the challenge of molecular chirality detection, crucial in biochemistry and pharmaceuticals, where conventional methods often yield weak signals. The developed gold metastructures enhance optical processes, allowing for the detection of chiral molecules at extremely low concentrations. This technology can distinguish between enantiomers in racemic mixtures without prior separation, promising faster analysis in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Future applications include reliable on-chip detection of chiral drugs and molecules in various fields.
