Descoperire spectaculoasă în lupta cu cancerul: celule din cordonul ombilical pot „vâna” și distruge tumorile ascunse

Researchers at UCLA have developed T cells from umbilical cord stem cells that can recognize and attack solid tumors. This therapy has shown promise in animal models by controlling tumor growth and extending survival, although it has not yet been tested in humans. The engineered T cells, named AlloESO-T, target the NY-ESO-1 protein found in many tumors and include a mechanism to detect stress signals on cancer cells. This dual recognition may help overcome antigen escape, a common issue in cancer treatment. The therapy also aims to reduce the risk of graft-versus-host disease and could be produced at a lower cost compared to personalized therapies. While results are promising, they remain preclinical, highlighting the potential of umbilical cord blood in developing scalable cancer treatments.
