Descoperire salvatoare în medicină. Pacienții cu artrită severă pot merge din nou fără implant metalic • Newsweek România
Biomedical engineers at Columbia University have developed a living knee implant made from 3D-printed tissue, offering hope for patients with severe arthritis. This innovative knee replacement allows patients to walk and run again without metal implants. The new joint has shown resilience under significant weight and functions like a normal knee. While still experimental, it could enter preliminary patient trials in about 18 months if research progresses as planned. The project, funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, aims to create biologically-based, cost-effective treatments for osteoarthritis, potentially benefiting millions of Americans suffering from this degenerative joint disease.
