A Roman shipwreck and hundreds of amphorae were discovered off Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, marking a significant archaeological find. The site, located three miles offshore at a depth of 46 meters, dates back to between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. The discovery was made by cultural heritage protection units following local reports. Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli emphasized the importance of the find for understanding Mediterranean trade and civilization. Additionally, a large underwater crater and hydrothermal vents were recently identified near Panarea Island, enhancing studies of the volcanic system.
