Descoperire arheologică importantă la Alba Iulia: Poarta principală a castrului roman Apulum, găsită pe un bastion al Cetății

Archaeologists in Alba Iulia have uncovered the Porta praetoria, the main gate of the Roman castrum Apulum, during systematic excavations. This significant find, located on the eastern side of the Alba Carolina fortress, reveals a massive foundation of a tower at a depth of four meters. The structure provides insights into the monumental entrance's dimensions and design, which included two imposing rectangular towers and arches. The Roman gate was later integrated into the medieval St. George's Gate, confirming a historical connection between the two periods. The research is coordinated by the National Museum of Union and involves local university students.
