Defrişările din Amazonia braziliană, la cel mai scăzut nivel din ultimii aproape 40 de ani • Newsweek România

Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon has reached its lowest level since 1988, according to official data. This decline is seen as a positive development for President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva ahead of the upcoming presidential elections. Lula aims for zero illegal deforestation by 2030, emphasizing Brazil's crucial role in combating climate change. From August 2025 to July 2026, 3,335 km² were deforested, marking a nearly 42% decrease from the previous year. The Environment Minister praised this significant reduction, while deforestation in the Cerrado region also hit a record low. Observers highlight the importance of political will in achieving these results.
