Deficitul bugetar scade, dar factura dobânzilor crește: peste 42 de miliarde de lei în opt luni
Romania's budget deficit decreased in the first eight months of 2026, but interest payments on public debt rose significantly. Interest expenses exceeded 42 billion lei, marking a 27% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The consolidated budget deficit was 59.42 billion lei, down from 86.36 billion lei year-on-year, with the deficit-to-GDP ratio falling to 2.89%. Despite the deficit reduction, the government faces rising debt costs, which pose risks to fiscal consolidation. Salary expenses for public employees decreased, while spending on goods and services increased by 7.1%. Investments rose significantly, with a large portion funded by EU grants.
