Romania's budget deficit decreased significantly in the first seven months of 2026, while investments rose sharply. The consolidated budget deficit fell to 48.08 billion lei, down 28.36 billion lei from the same period in 2025, marking a 37% reduction. Revenue increased by 11.2% to 412.31 billion lei, while expenditures rose by only 2.9%. Tax revenues grew by 15.4%, with VAT collections up 26.5%. Personnel costs decreased by 4.06 billion lei, contributing to the deficit reduction. Investment spending reached 76.51 billion lei, a 24% increase, largely funded by EU sources. Interest expenses rose to 40.12 billion lei, reflecting a 26.5% increase.
