Romania's budget deficit decreased to 2.34% of GDP in the first seven months of 2026, totaling 48.08 billion lei. Total revenues rose by 11.2% to 412.31 billion lei, while expenditures increased by 2.9% to 460.39 billion lei. Interest payments surged by 26.5%, reaching 40.12 billion lei, indicating ongoing pressure from public debt. Investment spending grew significantly by nearly 24%, totaling 76.51 billion lei, reflecting a positive trend despite the deficit reduction. The government aims for a 6.2% budget deficit for the entire year.
