Romania experienced a significant demographic decline in July 2026, losing over 5,000 people due to a negative natural increase. The number of deaths was 1.4 times higher than births, with 18,777 deaths and 13,497 births recorded. Although births increased from June, they decreased compared to July 2025. The negative natural increase was 5,280, slightly worse than the previous year. Most deaths occurred among the elderly, particularly those aged 80 and above. Urban areas saw a slight rise in deaths, while rural areas experienced a decrease. Additionally, there were 12,756 marriages and 2,058 divorces in July.
