Retail sales in Romania decreased by 5.7% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, driven by declines in non-food, food, and fuel sales. In June 2026, retail sales saw a 0.5% increase from the previous month, mainly due to fuel sales rising by 6.6%. However, adjusted figures showed a 1.2% decline in June compared to May, influenced by drops in food and non-food sales. Year-on-year, June 2026 retail sales fell by 5.7%, with significant decreases in fuel and food sales. Overall, the first six months of 2026 reflected a 5.6% drop in retail sales compared to 2025, with non-food sales experiencing the largest decline.
