Decizie istorică la Kiev: Ucraina condamnă atrocitățile comise de URSS împotriva maghiarilor din Transcarpatia

The Ukrainian Parliament has officially recognized and condemned the crimes committed by the Soviet military administration against civilians in Transcarpathia from 1944 to 1946. This unanimous decision acknowledges mass repressions and the deportation of thousands of Hungarians to labor camps in the Soviet Union. Following the withdrawal of Hungarian and German forces, the Soviet administration took control, leading to mass arrests of men under the pretext of labor mobilization. Many civilians were deported without judicial decisions to the Gulag system. The declaration also addresses the repression of the German population and plans to install memorial plaques, support scientific research, and develop educational programs about these persecutions. This act is seen as a significant political gesture towards Hungary amidst ongoing tensions between the two countries regarding Ukraine's EU accession.
