This decline is attributed to ongoing interventions in the river's confluence area. Recent operations successfully removed a significant rock near the Bala arm to prevent further decreases in water levels. The low flow has already led to the controlled shutdown of Unit 1 at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, which contributes to 20% of Romania's electricity production. A national alert has been declared due to reduced energy output caused by drought conditions.
