The General Council of Bucharest has suspended social integration allowances for adults with disabilities and Materna vouchers until November 1, 2030. Additionally, social aid for newborns and children with disabilities will be reduced starting January 1, 2027. The decision, supported by PNL, USR, and PUSL, faced opposition from PSD and AUR. Mayor Ciprian Ciucu justified the measures as necessary for budget savings, citing significant debts owed to beneficiaries. The financial support for newborns has been decreased, and the Materna voucher is deemed redundant due to existing health coverage for pregnant women.
